5 Unique events in beautiful Motatapu, Queenstown New Zealand.

Introducing our newest event! The Sawpit Gully track is a true local’s favourite that offers up stunning views, mountain creeks, beech forest and tussock covered hills all within an 8.5km loop. Located on Coronet Peak station, the trail was originally built as pack track that linked early settlers to the Big Hill Track and through to the Quartz Mining town of Macetown. The continuous change in scenery and terrain makes this course an exciting and challenging option for all levels of trail runners.

The course starts at Wilcox Green following Arrow River Trail past the historic Chinese Village and onto the Bush Creek track. About a kilometre later, at the head of the Sawpit Gully track, the trail starts to ascend and switch-backs steeply up the side of the hill. The challenging accent quickly eases off and exits the bush line into the open tussock covered slopes of Eichardt's Flat. There are spectacular views of the Remarkables Range and Lake Hayes at the high point of 698m. From here the trail heads down the gully on a narrowing and increasingly technical track. The single track weaves down the gully crossing back and forth over Sawpit stream. In this section, less experienced trail runners will want to take extreme caution with as there are rocky sections and drop offs.

After descending almost all the way to valley bottom, the course connects up with the Arrow River Trail. This final 1.5km section is fast and follows the river back to the town overlooking Macetown Track and the main Motatapu course. Staying true to Motatapu style, you still be getting your feet wet! We are sending you through the last two river crossings on your way back home to Wilcox Green.
