Here’s the latest from the organising desk as we approach 6 weeks out from the 2025 event! Transport Have you got your logistics sorted to the start line? Check out our transport options and book now to avoid missing out – capacity is limited and some services are already sold out. For Trail Marathoners please note that your entry includes a free shuttle bus from Wānaka to the Motatapu Station start line. No bookings are required for this service (Wānaka to start line). No private vehicles are permitted to drive to the start of the marathon. Mandatory Gear Lists – Be Prepared! Our Mandatory Gear lists are available online—please take the time to review them and ensure you’re fully equipped for your event. It’s your responsibility to have the required gear, and officials will conduct random checks on both gear and bikes (if applicable) at any point during the event, with a particular focus on the start and finish areas. We acknowledge that spot checks haven’t been as consistent as they could have been in the past. This year, there will be an increased presence of officials conducting checks to ensure compliance. Please note: all Ultra athletes must bring their gear to registration for mandatory checks. Why is this important? Gear requirements are in place for your safety. The weather in this region is notoriously unpredictable—a front can roll in and out of the mountains in under 12 hours. In March, conditions can range from sweltering heat to freezing cold, even snow, due to the event’s high elevation. Being prepared for all conditions is essential. Additionally, many sections of the course are remote and difficult to access. If you need to stop unexpectedly—whether for a medical reason, injury, to assist another participant, or due to an emergency requiring part of the course to be closed (which has happened before)—your body can quickly become cold after exertion without proper layers. Having the right gear is crucial to staying safe, comfortable, and ready for whatever challenges arise. Thank you for prioritising safety and being prepared. Check your entry details You can check your registration details via your Event Plus portal. Make sure you’re entered in the correct event! Check medical conditions we have recorded for you and your emergency contact. Please ensure your emergency contact is not also taking part in the event, this should be someone we are able to contact on race day. |
