What an incredible day! We loved seeing thousands of ultra-keen bikers, runners and walkers taking to the hills of Wānaka and Arrowtown. There were some epic battles for podium spots, while for others the day was about ticking off a bucket list achievement.
It’s astonishing to think that this event has been going for 20 years. I’ve had the privilege of being part of numerous Motatapu events, dating back to the inaugural one in 2005, which marked my initial venture into event management and where I realised that event management was for me. While I’ve been involved with various events, Motatapu continues to captivate me.
Seeing so many smiling faces crossing the finish line in Arrowtown, knowing people have accomplished personal goals and witnessing proud families cheering in amazement, it’s an honour to provide a platform for achieving such aspirations.
I’ve always said that Motatapu is about the People and the Place. The People being the participants, volunteers, landowners, sponsors and the crew – we couldn’t, and wouldn’t want to, do it without the collective contribution of everyone involved. For that, we thank you.
And the Place encompasses the majestic Glendhu, Motatapu, Soho and Glencoe Stations, much of which is protected under The Queen Elizabeth II National Trust. This conservation effort marks the largest conservation undertaking on private land in New Zealand’s history. We are privileged to be granted access this area only once a year for the Motatapu and are honoured to be entrusted with the responsibility of delivering this event in such a special part of NZ.
Bring on next year. See you there, and bring your mates!
